2024: A Promising Vintage for Bertani Wines

The 2024 vintage at Bertani stands as a remarkable balance between the challenges posed by climate variability and the exceptional quality of the harvest, reaffirming the value of the Valpolicella terroir. This agronomically complex season was marked by highly dynamic weather patterns, with an early budbreak, encouraged by the mild March temperatures despite frequent rainfall. While some areas experienced spring frosts, the resilience of the vines and timely phytosanitary interventions helped mitigate any significant damage.

Abundant spring rains, particularly in May and June, necessitated rigorous vineyard management, yet they also ensured ideal vegetative growth, preparing the vines for a summer marked by intense heat waves. The high temperatures in July and August accelerated the veraison process, leading to optimal grape ripening. The harvest of Corvina and Rondinella grapes for the “messa a riposo” began in early September in the sunniest vineyards and proceeded smoothly.

Despite the late September rains, which added challenges to the final stages of the harvest, expert supervision ensured a healthy and aromatic crop. The selections for the Valpolicella wines exhibit notable freshness and vibrancy, with grapes showing high acidity and salinity.

The profile of the 2024 vintage leans towards classicism: in the drying lofts, the grapes destined for Amarone are benefiting from optimal diurnal temperature variations, fostering a perfect drying process. The first musts reveal a fine and elegant tannic structure, combined with lively acidity, promising wines that are both long-lived and contemporary. The balance between freshness and concentration, typical of Bertani’s style, suggests a vintage that will stand out for its elegance and depth.

Bertani looks forward to this harvest with confidence, anticipating wines that will be remembered for their evolutionary potential and their respect for the winemaking traditions of Valpolicella.
